If you own a wooded lot along the Highway 27 corridor between Soddy-Daisy and Dayton, or a few overgrown acres near Chickamauga Lake in the Sale Creek and Bakewell area, you already know how fast Tennessee brush reclaims cleared ground. Boundless Excavation & Contracting handles land clearing for homeowners and builders throughout the Chattanooga area, from a quarter-acre building pad to acreage that’s never seen equipment before. Our crews clear brush, timber, and stumps, then grade the ground so it’s actually ready for the next step — a house pad, a pasture, a driveway, or a septic field. We’re not a subcontractor juggling five trades; land clearing is one of the services we built this company around, and we carry it through to finished grade ourselves. Call (423) 615-4885 for a free estimate, and we’ll walk the property with you before anything gets cut.
What Land Clearing Actually Involves
Land clearing is the removal of trees, brush, stumps, and undergrowth to make a wooded or overgrown property usable — whether that’s a home site, a pasture, or a right-of-way. Most lots in this part of Tennessee arrive covered in cedar, sweetgum, privet, and honeysuckle thick enough that you can’t walk the property line, let alone see what’s underneath. We start by walking the site with you to flag boundary trees, specimen trees you want to keep, and any drainage or septic areas that need to stay undisturbed. From there, our crews bring in skid steers and track loaders fitted with mulching heads for brush and smaller trees, and dozers or excavators for larger timber and stump removal. Smaller brush and trees up to roughly eight to ten inches in diameter get mulched in place rather than piled and hauled; larger timber gets felled, and merchantable logs are separated out if you want them kept. What used to be an impassable wooded lot becomes a clean, graded surface — walkable, buildable, and free of buried stumps that would otherwise show up as a problem during footer excavation or septic installation later.
Our Land Clearing Process
Step 1 — Site Walk & Boundary Marking: We start by walking the property with you (or your builder) to confirm property lines, flag trees you want preserved, and mark any wells, septic areas, or utility easements the crew needs to work around. This is also when we talk through what’s staying — a tree line for privacy, a specimen oak — versus what’s coming out.
Step 2 — Clearing & Mulching: Our crews move through the property with mulching-head skid steers and track loaders for brush and smaller trees, and a dozer or excavator for larger timber and stump work. Mulching happens in a single pass — no separate cutting, piling, and burning — which means less time on site and no burn pile smoldering for days afterward.
Step 3 — Stump & Root Removal: Anywhere you’re planning to build, grade, or install a septic field, stumps and root balls get pulled, not just ground down at the surface. Leftover roots are one of the most common reasons a footer inspection or drain field installation gets delayed later, so we handle it up front.
Step 4 — Debris Handling & Rough Grade: Depending on what you want, mulch stays on site as ground cover — it holds moisture and controls erosion until you’re ready for the next phase — or larger material gets hauled off if you’re clearing for construction. We finish with a rough grade so water moves off the property the way it should, not toward your future foundation.
Step 5 — Final Walkthrough: We walk the finished property with you, point out anything you should know — drainage patterns, any rock encountered, spots that may need additional fill — and make sure the site is ready for whatever comes next, whether that’s grading, a septic system, or a building permit.
Serving Chattanooga and the Surrounding Area
Boundless Excavation & Contracting clears land throughout Hamilton County and the surrounding communities — from residential lots in Hixson and Ooltewah to acreage along the Highway 27 corridor through Soddy-Daisy, Sale Creek, Bakewell, and Dayton. A lot of our land clearing work is on lake-adjacent property near Chickamauga Lake, where buyers are clearing overgrown parcels for a new home site, and on rural acreage further out toward Georgetown and Birchwood where pasture reclamation and building-pad clearing are the norm. The soil here is part of what makes clearing in this region different from flatter ground — expect cherty clay-loam over folded limestone in the valleys, with thinner, rockier soil once you climb toward the ridges around Signal Mountain and Walden’s Ridge. That mix affects how a dozer handles stump removal and how well a lot drains afterward, which is why we grade as we clear instead of leaving that step for someone else.
Why Chattanooga Homeowners & Builders Choose Boundless Excavation & Contracting
Boundless Excavation & Contracting is owned and operated by Josiah Sims, who’s been running heavy equipment since he was nine years old clearing his family’s own home site, and has since built, graded, and cleared property across the Chattanooga area as a landscaper, fabricator, and contractor before founding Boundless. That hands-on background shows up in how we clear land — we’re building toward the grading, septic, or foundation work that comes next, not just clearing and leaving.
Because we run our own clearing, grading, and site work crews, there’s no handoff between a clearing company and a grading company — the same team that drops the trees also shapes the final grade. If your project involves burning debris rather than mulching it, keep in mind that Tennessee requires a debris burn permit from the Tennessee Division of Forestry for any open burning near woodland between October 15 and May 15, and for larger land-clearing burns year-round — one more reason most of our clients let us mulch on site instead.
We offer free, no-obligation estimates and typically walk a property within a few days of your call. Learn more about Josiah and the Boundless Excavation team, or call (423) 615-4885 to schedule a walkthrough.
